Ice Castles by A.J. Mellor

Presidents Day: Monday, February 17, 2020

Take advantage of a day off from work or school and spend a long weekend in Bloomington with your family! As the home of Mall of America, Bloomington knows a thing or two about family fun. Most of our 40+ hotels have free parking and free shuttle to MSP International Airport and Mall of America, and many offer special family fun and shopping packages. Read on for suggestions for a Presidents Day weekend getaway or staycation in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro!

The awe-inspiring Ice Castles is back with a stunning new location this year. Wander through the sculptures made completely of ice and attend special events like starwatching parties and fire performances in Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton. On your short drive back to Bloomington, stop in Minneapolis and take a tour of Mill City Museum. This one-of-a-kind museum is built into the ruins of what was once the world's largest flour mill, and is a fun experience for both kids and adults.

Winters in Minnesota are always chilly, but you can forget all about the temperature at two special events in the Twin Cities area: Tropical Beach Party at Minnesota Zoo and the Winter Flower Show at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. The kid-friendly Tropical Beach Party is held in two indoor areas at the Zoo, Tropics Trail and Discovery Bay, and features Minnesota’s largest sandboxes and fascinating wildlife. Como’s Winter Flower Show provides a burst of bright color in the midst of cold winter, with azaleas, pansies, and other beautiful floral arrangements.

Our neighbors in Saint Paul and Minneapolis will be busy with several large events over Presidents Day weekend. Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul hosts a Minnesota Wild home game on Saturday, February 15, and U.S. Bank Stadium has Monster Jam the same evening. Both U.S. Bank and "The X" are just a 15 minute drive from Bloomington, and are also easily accessible via light rail.

Back in Bloomington, Mall of America is always a mainstay for winter fun with your family. Browse MOA's website for suggestions on ways to celebrate Valentine's Day at the Mall (V-Day coincides with Presidents Day weekend this year.) Mall of America has also introduced a new virtual reality experience, The Void, where you can explore the worlds of Star Wars™, The Avengers, and Jumanji.

Stay near by Mall of America at one of Bloomington’s many hotels - the ideal home base for your Presidents Day weekend getaway. View information about our hotels and book your Minnesota vacation today!
